Kick writers block to the curb

Your coffee cup steams beside your keyboard. The fresh, roasted aroma fills the room. The early morning sun streams through the windows. Your fingers hover gently above your keyboard, motionless.

Your screen is blank. The words won’t come.

This is the curse of the blank page. Today, I will show you how to overcome it.

Three keys to unlock the gift of writing

Key 1 - Knowledge

I’ve been in this situation many times. I’ve had the will to write, the information to write about but I simply did not know where to start. Some professional writers will tell you to begin by writing down a few headlines, others will tell you to write the conclusion first and build your story around it.

I believe that a true writer does not have to force words onto a page, but lay them down firmly, confidently and without forcing it. This is the secret to overcoming the curse of a blank page and today, I’ll reveal three keys you need to unlock the gift of writing and overcome the curse of the blank page.

Before you sit down to write, you need to know every detail about the subject that you’re writing about. The more knowledge you have about your subject, the better you’ll be able to express the ideas you want to share. The more you know, the more you’ll understand and the better you’ll be able to express yourself.

Key 2 - Patience

Most writers write to earn an income. Tight deadlines, difficult clients and harsh critique create added pressure that some writers respond to well. As a professional writer, you need to be patient. If you diligently research your topic, understand your client and accept your critics’ opinions you’ll find yourself creating copy that is well received.

Learning patience takes time, requires humility and strict time management.

Key 3 - Passion

Love your language, appreciate other writers and practice exceptionally. Take care in everything you write. Read and re-read your writing, check for errors and if you are uncertain, write it again. When submitting your writing, make sure it is free of errors and well presented. Let the love and passion for your trade shine through everything you do.
